Town Manager Update June 2020

Robert Shanahan - Town Manager

From the Desk of Town Manager Robert Shanahan

Hello Shipshewana, from Bob Shanahan, your Town Manager.

I probably don’t need to mention that the construction season has started in Shipshewana because I’m sure you can all see it and hear it.

We have started from where we finished, on Middlebury Street, from Talmadge Street going east to Lake Park Industries.  We are going to be resurfacing the road completely, upgrading the drainage system and putting in new curb, gutter and sidewalks.  Portions of Middlebury Street will be closed as the job progresses but we will always grant access in some form or another. The street is closed to through traffic and will be open to local traffic only.

Another part of the construction process for the Town this year will be sidewalks on the west side of State Road 5 from the south side of the Blue Gate Garden Inn proceeding north to connect with the existing sidewalk at Farver Street, also known as 200 North.

Our Independence Day Fireworks are still planned to go ahead in the Shipshewana Flea Market area.  They will start at approximately 9:45 pm on Friday, July 3rd.

Shipshewana Summer Festival is planned to take place on the 31st of July and the 1st of August.  These dates may need to be pushed back depending on where we are with Covid 19.  The decision on whether to change the dates will be made on July 6th.  Please watch for updates.

These are difficult times that we are faced with at the moment.  We all need to be as vigilant as possible considering the situation that we are in.  Remember, if you need any assistance you can always contact me by phone or email.  The Town Hall is closed to the general public, but you can always make an appointment to see me at any time.  I can also come to you, and I am happy to do so.
