State Road 5 Project Information

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT)

The purpose of this project is to improve safety and reduce congestion. Proposed improvements include widening the pavement on SR 5 from US20 to School Street to add a shared center left turn lane, new storm sewer and inlets,
concrete curb and gutter, and grading for future sidewalks.

Curb ramps meeting current accessibility standards will be installed or replaced at all roadway intersections.
At the start of construction, a short-term closure to through traffic will be required for the replacement of a culvert at
Cotton Lake Drain. Through traffic will follow a signed detour route (shown in the graphic to the right) utilizing US20, SR 9
and SR 120. After the culvert is completed, SR 5 will remain open to at least two lanes of traffic for the remainder of
construction.
